Boganvia - Knowledgebase Question

We are moving to Alabama from Florida. We have two beautiful Boganvia plants. Will they thrive in Alabama?

Scott,

That depends on where in Alabama you are moving. Bougainvillea can take temps down to about 35 degrees. Below that you will start to see damage to the above ground parts. If you mulch the base well you can probably have it survive down to the upper 20's if the freeze period is brief. Otherwise it will be killed outright. There is always the option of potting the plant so in winter it can be cut back and moved into a protected garage area.
