Spruce trees generally need full sun all day or for at least six hours a day including the hour of noon in order to stay healthy and grow dense and full as they should. In too much shade they may survive but they will grow sparse and look pretty terrible after a few years. And if they are stressed, they are more likely to be attacked by a pest or disease and possibly die. If you are not sure about the location for your trees you could consult with your local professionally trained nursery staff and/or your local county extension for more specific advice. Good luck with your trees!
