Amaryllis, as for other bulbs, need to take a rest once a year. After the rest period they bloom. After blooming they grow their foliage. The foliage period allows the bulb to rebuild its strength so it can bloom again. After a the growing season, the plant rests and the cycle starts all over again. From the information in your question I do not know how long you have had your bulb or when you planted it, but it sounds as though it either needs more light to keep the foliage healthy, or it is ready for a rest. Here is more detailed information on how to grow it throughout the year and accommodate its need for a rest period.

Good luck with your amaryllis!
