Why won't my two healthy, green, gardenia plants bloom? |
Gardenias are a challenge to grow in the low desert. Their large, dark green leaves are not well adapted to our arid climate. They are "acid loving" and do not do well in our alkaline, adobe soils. I'm impressed that you have managed to keepthe plants healthy! Congratulations! That means you probably have them planted on the north or east side of your house, which is where they are happiest. In the best of circumstances gardenias bloom May - July or May - November depending on variety. Most often failure to bloom is due to lack of sunlight. They need six or more hours of sun. Good Luck! |
