| I bought a Mugo pine in August. It was beautiful. I kept it in its original container because I had not decided where I wanted to put it. Summer was very hot here, and a lot of my plants suffered with the heat. I was worried about the Mugo, because it looked dried out. I moved it to a shadier place and gave it more water. Unfortunetly I did not see how yellow/brown it was getting until the other day. Now im not sure what to do. Is it getting too much water? Not enough sun? iIpaid a lot for this pine and I love it. Can you give me any advise? |
| It's normal for some of the needles closest to the trunk and on the inner branches to drop off in the fall, but what you describe sounds more like a reaction to stress - either too much reflected heat or not enough water. Plants in containers can dry out quickly and may need to be watered daily during hot weather. The roots are also subject to overheating if sunshine directly hits the container. Cooked roots will eventually show up as dying needles and branches. I don't know whether your Mugo will recover. I can only suggest you bury the pot in the ground to keep the roots more protected and that you water it as often as necessary to keep the potting soil from completely drying out. If it's strong enough, it will recover from its ordeal. If not, you may have to replace it. Best wishes with your Mugo! |
