| Hello, Can you tell me if a Forest Pansy Redbud can live in direct sun in my area? I have a small garden and was told these offer some color changes without growing to big. Will it survive in this part of TX? If there is a better specimen....i.e. Oaklahoma Redbud....Mexicana Redbud.....please advise which one would work for a small patio garden in full sun here. | Monrovia, It can live in those conditions but will need you to keep the soil evenly moist and well mulched to help it become established. The first couple of years will be especially critical. Make sure the soil area drains well. This is true of whatever redbud you choose. A raised planting area may be needed. Soils in your area are typically black clay and may stay soggy for too long after rainy periods. If you want to choose a redbud that takes the full sun the best the Texas redbud and Mexican redbud are the most adapted. However they lack the beautiful burgundy foliage that you get with the 'Forest Pansy' variety of eastern redbud. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
