| Himalayan champaca trees will grow in average, well draining soils. Fall or spring are the best seasons to plant trees and shrubs, mainly because temperatures are generally cool and rainfall abundant, which will help your tree establish its root system quickly. When planting, dig a hole about as deep and a little wider than the nursery container. Rough the sides and the bottom of the hole up, then unpot your new tree and gently spread the roots out a bit. Set the tree in the hole and make sure that when it is planted the finished level will be the same as the tree was growing in the nursery pot. Backfill with native soil, gently tamping it down around the roots. When you've finished filling the hole, water your new tree deeply to help settle the soil and drive out any air pockets that may be around the roots. Then remember to water deeply once each week until fall rains take over for you. (Your new tree will need about one-inch of water per week.) Enjoy your new tree! |
