Gladiolus needs a large container so that the soil can be kept evenly moist during the growing season and so that there is enough soil volume to support a stake for the stem. Depending on the variety you plant, a larger type might need a two gallon container in order to give enough depth for the support stake, or you could plant a dozen, say, in a half barrel. Keep in mind, too, that glads are not winter hardy so would not be planted until spring. I hope this helps.
