The Q&A Archives: watering a yucca

Question: When do you water a yucca plant and how much water do you give it?

Answer: How much water you need to provide really depends upon your soil type and the season. For the most part, yucca's seem to thrive on neglect. They do appreciate a deep soaking every 10-14 days during the summer months if the weather is hot, but will otherwise get along with normal rainfall in the spring and fall months. The easiest way to water a yucca is to make a water basin beneath the plant and fill it, allow it to drain, then fill it a second time. This method concentrates the moisture over the root mass and allows it to trickle down and wet the entire root mass. Best wishes with your garden!
