Ornamental sweet potato vine - Knowledgebase Question

I planted what I was told was an ornamental sweet potato plant last spring. When I pulled up the vines to plant fall flower, I discovered several large sweet potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised, but I want to know if they are ok to eat. Was this

I cannot say if they are okay to eat or not but feel sure that at best they would not be very palatable. Those storage roots help the plant to return the following year. Ornamental sweet potatoes are very close to the ones grown for a food crop.
