The Q&A Archives: Drying Emerald Green Arborvitae

Question: I planted 7 emerals green arborvitae shrubs 10 days ago. We dug holes as directed so the roots can be established. Our neighbor gave us some shreded tree

Answer: Arborvitaes go through a seasonal change each fall when they do lose some of the innermost oldest foliage. So what you are seeing might be normal. However, foliage loss at the base of the plant or exterior of it could indicate overwatering or underwatering. Since they are new, I would suggest you consult with your retailer and/or county extension just to make sure they are okay.
