Centipede grass is a warm-season grass and should be fertilized during its period of active growth. Feed in April and then again in September, using one pound of actual nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. A typical formulation for most lawns is a 6-1-2 ratioof Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. An example of a commercially prepared lawn fertilizer with the correct ratio is 24-4-8.
