The Q&A Archives: Winter Preparation

Question: What is the best way to prepare a bermuda grass lawn for winter to ensure a beautiful lawn in spring?

Answer: Suzanne,

A late season feeding in late September is fine. I would not bother with that now. There is little else to do now except wait for spring. Don't overseed with rye as this stresses the bermuda turf a lot in spring during the transitional period. In late April fertilize with a 3-1-2 ratio product at a rate of 1 pound of nitrogen per 1000 square feet. Repeat in early and mid summer. Mow as often as you can for the best turf density.
