I need 8-10 foot shrubs for privacy. I need to start with 4 to 5 ft tall, 5 gal plants with selection of colors and may be flowering but does not take too much space at the bottom. Please recommend few to choose from. Like to plant before raining begins.

Leyland cypress is a popular tree for screening and privacy plantings. You might also consider "Witchita Blue" or "Skyrocket" junipers. These are reasonably fast growing, upright plants. Or, American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) is a tall, columnar evergreen that's a natural for planting in rows for quick screening. These are non-flowering evergreens.

Or, you might consider Pieris, Spirea, Photinia, or Escallonia. These shrubs can be quite wide, but you can prune them to keep them 4-6' wide. These plants flower. Hope one of these suggestions works for you in your landscape!
