Unfortunately it is a bit difficult to answer your question specifically. It is possible to grow many different herbs, fruits and vegetables in your area, and there are also wild or native plants that could be eaten or traditionally have been used medicinally. If you have questions about a specific plant locally I would suggest you contact the Calgary Horticultural Society for more in depth localized information.

The Devonian Botanic Garden (and the Master Gardener program there as well) might also have some suggestions.

Alberta Agriculture -- you may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.

If you are thinking of gardening for feeding wildlife, the Canadian Wildlife Federation should be helpful.

I hope this helps.
