This shrub will eventually spread out via root suckers, but you can control the width by digging out the spreading roots if you need to. I would plant it about three feet out from the house to make sure it is well beyond the spread of the eaves so rain will keep the roots moist. This also allows you to get in behind it if you ever need to do maintenance on the wall. It will likely grow forward toward the light so your bed should be fairly deep. I would probably allow it an overall spot about five feet in diameter to spread into over the years without crowding. Enjoy your Henry's Garnet -- it is a terrific plant! |
