| I have Dewarf Alberta Spruce Trees at the ends of my wall and one each side of two windows. I would like to fill in under the windows and beteen the trees with a low evergreen bush,shrub, or whatever.I have been told a Mongo Pine is a choice. Or a Hines Pine witch I can not find anywhere I may have misunderstood that one. Can you tell me what to look for and where to find them? Thanks Ron |
| The mugo pine will mature much taller than 12 to 18 inches so I do not think that would be a good choice in the long run. Instead you might look at some of the very low growing junipers. These need full sun and a well drained soil to thrive over time and will stay at a predictable low height. There are many different cultivars available. Some examples would include: Juniperus horizontalis `Wiltonii` stays at about 6 inches, Juniperus horizontalis `Bar Harbor` stays at 12 inches, Juniperus sabina `Scandia` at 12 inches, Juniperus horizontalis ?Plumosa Compacta? runs 12 to 24 inches tall. Be sure to allow space for the plants to reach their mature width when you plant. Your local professional nursery staff and/or county extension may have other suggestions based on a more detailed understanding of the planting site and growing conditions, as well as your overall design goals.
