This is a very low maintenance spruce; pruning or shearing is not usually needed as it maintains its own shape naturally. It is very slow growing and will not tolerate a hard pruning as it does not regrow if trimmed back to bare wood. You could however shear it very lightly in the spring as the new growth extends, but do not take all of the new growth off when you do it. This will hold the plant to a minimal increase in size each year. If you find that it is outgrowing its alloted space, you may want to consider replacing it with something that matures to a more appropriate size. |
