We have a 20-23 foot strip where we would like to plant some conifers for privacy. Most of them say they require full sun and we aren't sure exactly how much sun per day they would require. This area will not have all day sun. If that isn't a problem, we were considering the Emerald Arbovitae. However, we are open for suggestions if there are other alternatives which do not require full sun. Thanks for your help.

Most conifers require full sun for best performance. Arborvitae will grow in part shade, as will Sekkan Sugi Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica ?Sekkan Sugi?) I think Cryptomeria is an underused conifer for part sun to shade. The branches droop gently on a pyramidal tree.

Best wishes with your landscape!
