A shady location can be a challenge when it comes to growing grass. Zoysiagrass does not grow well in the shade, however there are a couple of other choices for your climate. St. Augustinegrass forms a dense, spongy turf and would be a good choice unlessyou plan to play sports on the grass. If durability is more important than appearance, you could choose bahiagrass which is coarse-bladed and quite strong. Bahiagrass can be seeded; St. Augustinegrass is available as sod or in plugs. Good luck.
