| For 1 1/2 years I have had a bed of african irises that border the sidewalk leading to the entrance of my home. Four months ago, one started browning from the bottom up, and I also noticed seeds at the base of the plant. Home Depot said my Irises have crown rot, and since I have had 5 of them dye. I do have poor drainage in the area that my irises are in; Is there some other plant I could place there that would do great? It is a full sun area, and I also have windmill palms, evergreen giant liriope (which aren't doing great either), lorapetalumas, and burford holly planted in the same areas. Any suggestions?? | Kristen, Liriope doesn't like that much sun. For a replacement plant you might consider Louisiana Iris as they have swordlike foliage like the African irises. If you can change the water situation by some action such as redirecting drainage or building up the planting area you might be able to go back in with the African iris if that is what you want in that location.
