Our Golden Bamboo in planters is developing yellow leaves that fall off. What could be causing this? Thank you!

Although evergreen, bamboo actually will lose some older leaves year round as the new foliage comes in. It is also possible your bamboo was overwatered during the recent extreme rains -- bamboo likes moisture but not saturated soil. Also, if you have already brought the bamboo indoors for the winter it may be adjusting to a change in the light; finally, while it is slowed down for winter make sure to cut back on watering and do not fertilize it. If you do not think any of the above scenarios fit, I would suggest you contact your Cornell cooperative extension or your local professionally trained nursery staff for help in troubleshooting. Good luck with your bamboo!
