I'm looking for a showy, sort of Hosta shape, plant to use as a border around my patio. It will be in full sun. I have a beautiful view and I don't want anything too tall that will block the scenery.

Did you know there are several hostas that will perform in full sun? Here is a partial list: 'August Moon', 'Sum & Substance', 'Sun Power', 'Invincible', 'Shining Tot', 'Fringe Benefit', and 'Blue Umbrella'. All of these varieties are available from Shady Oaks Nursery at 1-800-504-8006. Also, have you considered Canna? They are a tender bulb that you would need to dig up in the fall and store over the winter. They are quite beautiful and showy. The foliage is lush and tropical and the flowers are spectacular. They are suitable for the area you describe. The dwarfs reach a height of only 2.5' so they shouldn't block your view. You can obtain many varieties of canna from Burpee at 1-800-888-1447 or, visit the website.
