| Unfortunately, based on your description I am not certain what you have purchased. Monrovia currently lists (with description and photos) two grafted varieties of Tanyosho Pine (Pinus densiflora). Both are quite ornamental and would need full sun and a well drained soil as would any pine, however the sizes and overall shapes are different. Pinus densiflora `Umbraculifera` is described in the Monrovia online catalog as Very attractive evergreen displays shrub-like multi-trunked form with flat-topped umbrella-like head. Red brown bark in youth and bright green needles are other features. Makes a special accent. Full sun. Slow-growing to 12 to 20 feet high, 18 feet wide, larger with age. Grafted. Pinus densiflora 'Umbraculifera Compacta' is described as A more dense habit to this very attractive evergreen displaying a shrub-like multi-trunked form with flat-topped umbrella-like head. Red brown bark and bright green needles are other features. Full sun. Slow-growing to 12 feet high, 18 feet wide. Grafted. I would strongly suggest you check back with the retailer where you purchased the plant for a more definite identification of it -- and additional planting instructions based on knowing that.
