When the fan palms appear to be turning yellow...are they receiving too much water or too little? We just had them planted a month ago, and they are about four feet tall.

Carole,

It could be either soil moisture extreme. Something is wrong in the soil either way and roots are struggling. Such symptoms are not unusual with a newly planted tree. When the roots are established the symptoms should clear up. In the meantime, watch that the soil is not kept too soggy wet. Also if the tree was planted too deep that is very detrimental to it. Don't plant a palm deeper than it was growing in the container. Shallow is better than deep.
