The Q&A Archives: Trees and Shrubs for Sunny Driveway

Question: I want to plant trees and shrubs between two driveways. The space is only about 5 or 6 feet wide. The area is full sun. What kinds of trees and shrubs do you recommend. I would like a tree shrub tree look.

Answer: Narrow planting sites call for columnar or upright trees and shrubs. I'd plant ornamental (flowering) pear, plus shrubs such as Escallonia or viburnum. But there are literally hundreds of choices for your growing region. Here's a website put together by Duke University containing suggestions and photos of plants that grow well in your area. I'm sure you'll find just the right plants for your landscape. Enjoy!
