| Queen palms are not prone to pest problems. However, although they are sold in the nurseries here because people expect to see them, they are native to tropical regions of South America and not particularly well-adapted to our hot, arid desert. They are also susceptible to nutrient deficiencies. If your front door has some protection from drying winds and hot afternoon sun, the queen palm may be okay if you monitor soil moisture and fertility carefully. Feed with a fertilizer for palms according to package instructions. It will have all the micronutrients that they need. Periodically flush the salts from the soil with a deep watering that allows the water to flow out the drainage holes in the pot. Good luck! |
