I have volunteered to be a greenhouse mentor for a Juvenile
Detention Facility. I have the energy and the interest, but
no practical experience. I have the Penn State Extension Service Library at my service but am looking for an e-mail
mentor. Any volunteers?

Good for you! It sounds like a very worthy and interesting venture.

I can give you some web sites that have chat rooms--you may be able to find someone with lots of greenhouse experience that's willing to help out. Try GardenEscape at http://www.garden.com and The Virtual Gardener at http://pathfinder.com/vg Also Dig Magazine, at www.digmagazine.com

All these sites are described as having chat rooms and forums for discussion.

Also, I'd recommend you get a good greenhouse gardening book for reference. A good one is "Greenhouse Gardener's Companion" by Shane Smith (Fulcrum Publishing, Golden, Colorado, 1992) ISBN 1-55591-106-4 Your local bookstore should be able to order it for you, or check out www.amazon.com for an on-line bookstore.

Also, feel free to post questions via our web page when something specific comes up, and we'll try to search out an answer for you!

I hope this helps!
