juniperus procumbens nana standard does it grow from the top? how fast& how can it be pruned to maintain a balanced shape?how long must it be staked before it can support it self?.any pests or problems?fertilize how often?

Bernie,

A standard form of that plant will grow from wherever there are green needles. The goal is to shear it to take the form or maintain the form you are wanting. Try to shear periodically for best results. That is don't wait so long you have to cut it back a lot. Leave the stake in place as long as you can for best results.

There are few pests although in the summer spider mites can be a problem at times. Fertilize in late winter, spring and summer with a cup of lawn fertilizer per 10 square feet of soil surface or 2 tablespoons per container if it is still in a container.
