I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me if I need to wrap a Mexican Palm Tree in the winter months for protection in case of a cold snap below 10-20 degrees. I live just south of Dallas TX where we can get these temps at nite on occasion.

Brad,

The key to protecting a palm tree is to protect the main terminal bud at the top of the trunk. If it is killed the tree cannot resprout and will die. The tree can be covered with a tarp when young and small but as it grows taller this is not really practical. At such a time your tree is pretty much at the mercy of the winter weather. There are hardier palms than the Mexican Fan palm and you may want to consider planting one if these also to hedge your bet a little.
