| Hello, I live in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. I have a area in my back yard where I would like to plant some hedges or trees that will create a privacy block between my property and our neighbors. The line is about 30 ft long and about 3 feet wide. I would like to plant trees/hedges that do not require a lot of trimming, will grow to a height of about 7-15 feet but not grow too wide 2-4 feet. Can you suggest some plants? Regards, John |
| John, The narrowness is the big challenge in such a planting area. You might try a clumping type of bamboo. Some of Monrovia's bamboo varieties that are clumping include: BUDDHA'S BELLY BAMBOO (Bambusa ventricosa) GOLDEN GODDESS BAMBOO (Bambusa multiplex ?Golden Goddess?) PUNTING POLE BAMBOO (Bambusa tuldoides) ALPHONSE KARR BAMBOO (Bambusa multiplex ?Alphonse Karr?) There are some other plants that are quite narrow in growth habit: SKY PENCIL JAPANESE HOLLY Ilex crenata 'Sky Pencil' Grows 6 to 8 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. HICK'S YEW Taxus x media 'Hicksii' Slow grower to 10 to 12 feet tall, 3 to 4 feet wide, larger with age. SKYROCKET JUNIPER Juniperus virginiana 'Skyrocket' (J. scopulorum 'Skyrocket') Fast grower to 15 to 20 feet tall, 2 to 3 feet wide. There is also a narrow upright variety of yaupon called 'Will Fleming' that Monrovia does not sell but which may be available in your area. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
