This plant should be able to overwinter successfully indoors. It does however often lose foliage due to shock when moved inside, so what you are seeing is not too unusual. It will do well in a cool room with bright light, take care not to overwater it while it is indoors. You also do not need to fertilize it during the winter months. In the spring take it back outside again once the weather has settled. If you need to prune it back at all, do so in mid winter. Good luck with your bougainvillea!
