The Q&A Archives: Poinsettias

Question: Is it okay to plant poinsettias in a corner of my vegetable garden with onions surrounding them, since poinsettias are poisonous?

Answer: Poinsettias have gotten a bum rap over the years. They are not poisonous, but then they're not considered edible, either. You can safely plant veggies near poinsettias, but the poinsettias probably won't be too happy growing in the veggie garden.Onions like full sun and poinsettias prefer only morning sun. If they're forced to grow under less than ideal conditions, the plants will pout and eventually die.

Why not find an area in your garden that gets afternoon shade and plant your poinsettias there?
