I am looking for a Camellia that blooms well in a North Eastern exposure close to the beach in Sunset Zone 24. Would like a loose, yet full habit. Thanks Erin King |
There are many camellias that would grow well in the environment you describe; C. reticulata, which thrives in partial shade and produces spectacular blooms, and C. japonica, a relatively shade-loving variety that is by far the most widely planted. Those that would do particularly well include Dr. Clifford Parks: Midseason, red with orange cast, semi-double to anemone to loose to full peony form; Frank Houser: Early to midseason, red, semi-double to peony form; Terrell Weaver: Midseason, flame to dark red, semi-double to loose peony form, unusual variegation; and Valentine Day: Midseason, salmon pink, formal double with rosebud center. Hope one of these appeals to you! |
