Your Kwanzan is a deciduous tree so yes, the leaves will fall off and the branches will be bare during the winter months. Healthy new leaves will appear in the spring. If you're having insect problems, the best approach is to rake up and discard any fallen leaves. In the spring, try to determine just what insect is feeding on the leaves (take a sample to your local nursery or Cooperative Extension office). Once you know which critter you're dealing with, you can select an insecticide to control them (not all sprays work against all pests). Best wishes with your cherry tree.
