I'm wanting to use these trees in my back yard so I have privacy from neighbors when using my pool. Calloways nursery in arlington says the trees do well here, but they won't be getting them until spring. The landscaper that i want to hire says your company says this plant will not do well here...yet your cold hardy & heat zone maps on your site clearly shows that this plant would thrive here. Can you enlighten me. I'm wanting to use about 25-30 15+ gal trees for my project/ thanks. Jcoleman

Julia,

They are listed for your cold and heat zones. Itallian cypress sometimes struggles with foliage diseases in the humid climate of the south. They are however adapted and I would consider them a possible choice for such a use as you described. Some other possible choices include:

BRIGHT 'N TIGHT? CAROLINA LAUREL
Prunus caroliniana 'Monus'
Moderate grower to 8 to 10 feet tall, 6 to 8 feet wide, larger if untrimmed.

IDYLLWILD JUNIPER
Juniperus virginiana `Idyllwild`
Moderate growth 15 feet tall, 5 to 7 feet wide.

BLUE POINT JUNIPER
Juniperus chinensis `Blue Point`
Moderate-growing to 12 feet tall, 8 feet wide.

SKYROCKET JUNIPER
Juniperus virginiana 'Skyrocket' (J. scopulorum 'Skyrocket')
Fast grower to 15 to 20 feet tall, 2 to 3 feet wide.

WICHITA BLUE JUNIPER
Juniperus scopulorum `Wichita Blue`
Moderate grower to 10 to 15 feet tall, 4 to 6 feet wide. Larger with age.

Hope this helps. Thanks for the question and please stop in again soon!
