I am a designer that has been asked by a client to locate a bush that was in her mothers garden in the East. She called it a Pinapple Bush and I have been stumped. We discussed the Cytisus but that's not it. She said it grows 5' x 5' so it is not the Pinapple Guava. She indicated that it is very fragrant but it is not something that has that common name in the Pacific Northwest. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Ahh, the problem with common names is that they are often regional and the same plant can have different common names depending upon where you live. Pineapple bush or strawberry shrub or Carolina allspice are all regionally common names for Calycanthus floridus. Perhaps this is the plant your client is referring to. Hope so!
