Magnolias have the ability to grow quite large so most will not be happy in a container. An exception might be the Japanese Magnolia (Magnolia sieboldii). This tree grows only 15' high and 12' wide in about 15 years. Grow in acidic soil in either full sun or part shade.

Best wishes with your new tree!
