Be SURE what you choose is not the invasive type. There are some that form clumps and are relatively well behaved. The book "Ornamental Grasses", by Carole Ottesen, suggests the variety Blue Clump Bamboo (Sinarundinaria nitida, also called Fargesia nitida and Arundinaria nitida) as a shade-loving, evergreen, clumping bamboo that is hardy to minus 20F if sheltered from srong winds. It grows to a height of aboaut 20 feet. The book also recommends David Bisset bamboo (Phyllostachys bissetii) as one of the hardiest; it reaches a height of 20 feet. I'm not sure, however, if the above sources carry these varieties. |
