Need some suggestions for landscape around winter mobile home in Sebring, Fl - drought tolerant flowers, shrubs, trees and ground cover that will provide beauty and blooms in the December to April months without watering and pruning. I know thats a tall order - But - Any help appreciated. HAVE A GREAT DAY!! - Emma |
Emma, That is a tall order. Some cool season flowers include pansies, viola, alyssum, stock, snapdragons, and the foliage plant Dusty Miller. Petunias and calendula are other options but they can't take a freeze. However all these plants need some water and thus can't be totally left uncared for. During the cooler winter months however watering needs are greatly reduced. Shrubs that bloom in the winter or early spring season include: Bougainvillea Primrose jasmine (Jasminum mesnyi) Chinese Witchhazel (Loropetalum chinense) Camellia (Camellia japonica & Camellia sasanqua) - needs regular watering The following web sites have lots of additional info that will be very useful to you in planning your landscape there in southcentral Florida: Bedding Plants: Selection, Establishment and Maintenance http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/scrip...
