| You can train your hibiscus into a tree form with some pruning. Allow your hibiscus to grow naturally until the roots are well established. Next spring you can begin to train your hibiscus by removing all but the main stem. Stake the stem upright if necessary. This will become the trunk of your tree. You can remove some of the lower branches but don't remove more than one-third of the live plant material at any one time (if you do, the plant will be overly stressed). As the trunk elongates, remove more lower branches until you have a topnot of branches at the top of the trunk. Rub out any buds that develop along the trunk of your tree.
