i purchase a care free delight shrub rose last summer, and i was wondering how to prune it and when to do so. |
These roses are very low maintenance. In the early spring, trim off any winter damaged canes. Then trim as needed to make the plant roughly symmetrical and reduce the overall height by about half. Beginning about the third year, also remove a few of the oldest canes each spring, cut them off at the base. This will encourage vigorous new growth while thinning the plant. Enjoy your rose! |
