What type of plants would grow best on top of a drain field. Direct sunlight, moist soil, shallow roots. Looking for low maintainance, yet decorative covering? |
Turfgrass is the number one choice for planting over a drainfield because of the wicking action of the leaf blades. If you're not happy with that prospect, how about a flowering groundcover? If you plant shrubs or woody perennials, their roots may eventually invade your drain tiles. There are many attractive, carefree groundcovers that will grow well in your area: Ajuga (Carpet Bugle), Vinca minor (Periwinkle), Cistus (Rockrose), Euonymus fortunei (Winter Creeper), Lysimachia, Lamium (Dead Nettle), and lots ornamental grasses. |
