I HAVE SEEN A WEEPING PURPLE BEECH THAT HAS REMAINED ABOUT 4 1/2 FEET TALL FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. I'VE TRIED TO LOCATE IT LOCALLY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE NAME ABOVE WAS THE CORRECT PLANT. WHEN I TRIED TO ACTUALLY ORDER IT, I WAS SHOWN A TREE ABOUT 12 FT. TALL THAT I WAS TOLD WOULD GROW TO 15 OR 20 FEET. I NEED A TREE THAT WOULD GET NO MORE THAN 6 FT. HIGH AS IT WOULD BE PLACED IN FRONT OF A DECK. WHAT IS IT THAT I'M ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR AND WHERE CAN I ORDER ONE? THANKS |
Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Pendula', the Weeping Purpleleaf European Beech , has a broad mushroomed shape canopy with pendulous branches which arch from its trunk and apex. Slow growing to about 10 feet at most; broadens as it gets older. I have one planted in my yard and after 16 years, this tree is only about 5 1/2 feet tall. It was planted in 1990 as a 1 inch caliper size. It is approximately 6 inches in caliper now. You should be able to find this tree at one of the following local nurseries: PENINSULA GARDEN 5503 WOLLOCHET DRIVE N.W. GIG HARBOR, WA 98335 (253) 851-8115 ROSEDALE GARDENS 7311 ROSEDALE ST. N.W.
