Can I prune my Japanese aralias now? They have overgrown the area and need to be cut back. How severely can I cut them back?

Japanese Aralias can grow to very large proportions. You can prune to give more branch structure, or cut to the ground to rejuvenate shrub in spring. As ongoing care, you can cut out any suckers that emerge to keep the shrub more compact.
