| I cannot bring back into flower a cyclamen tuber(?). I have had it for a number of years, and all I get is a few spindly leaves. I fertilize it and try to get it to rest, but it never dies back completely. Should I just give up and buy a new plant? |
| Cyclamen requires a rest period before it can bloom, so try the following: Stop watering and don't fertilize. Place the pot on its side in a cool spot and keep it dry until mid-summer. Then repot using fresh compost, and burying the tuber to half its depth. Stand the pot in a cool, well-lit spot, on a tray filled with pebbles in which there's about a half inch of water. Keep the compost moist, but try not to let water stand around the tuber. Temperatures of 50F to 60F are ideal, with bright light but not direct sunlight. It should bloom for you. If not, maybe a new plant is in order. Good luck! |
