I am interested in your 'Crimson Jewel' Mandevilla. How does it compare to the 'Alice du Pont' in leaf appearance and growth habit? Is it semi-deciduous? Is it prone to aphid/insect infestation? |
Crimson Jewel is one of the reddest Mandevillas on the market. A vigorous tropical evergreen vine with dark green glossy oval foliage and exotic flowers that open a deep crimson and slowly fades to a deep fuchsia. Will bloom year long in warm climates or excellent as a container plant in Northern regions as annual color. Full sun. Vigorous twining growth reaches 15 - 20 feet. Alice Du Pont produces a spectacular display of icy pink, trumpet shaped flowers lasting all summer. It's an evergreen twining vine, growing 15-20'. Plant in rich, moist soil, providing support such as a trellis. Needs partial shade in hot summer areas. I'm afraid either plant can be attacked by aphids so be sure to inspect them often, especially the new growth. |
