The azalias the garden of my new house are much too large. I want to cut them back drastically. How much can I prune them without killing them? I would like to end up with 2 ft tall bushes, they are currently 5 ft or more.

Lorna,

Cut back about half of the major shoots to 2 feet high. Then wait for some regrowth of them and then cut the other half of the shoots. This way the plant won't be without foliage to feed the roots the carbohydrates needed for growth.
