When should I apply a pre-emergent to my lawn in the Spring?

If you are applying a pre-emergent crab grass preventer, it should be applied about when the forsythia blooms in your neighborhood and in accordance with the label instructions. It is important to apply it early enough because crabgrass seeds begin to germinate very early in the season while the soil is still quite cold.
