What is a good book or other information for me to purchase to plan a small shade container garden? I want shrubs and flowers. I already have large trees.

If you don't already have a copy, Sunset Western Garden Book is an excellent resource for any gardener. It lists hundreds of plants for all growing regions and includes the cultural requirements of each. It also provides lists of plants suitable for special growing conditions; shade gardens, gardening around pools, windy areas, rock gardens, etc. I'm sure you'll find dozens of plants to suit your growing conditions. There are also sections devoted to soils, lawn care, insect control and fertilization. If you can only have one reference book on gardening, this would be the one to choose.

There are countless other resources for you. Here's a good one: http://www.taunton.com/finegar...

And here's another:

Hope you find just the right plants for your container garden!
